Canine Cancer is disturbing. No question. When your beloved pet is diagnosed with cancer, this is probably the worst. What can be done? Well lots of things. First don’t panic, don’t give up and read everything you can. Talk to your vet, ask around for others that have gone through this before. There is a ton of information out there, probably way too much, but much can make you feel better by giving you the background you need for the decisions you will have to make. Your pet shouldn’t be in pain.  In this day and age there is really no reason for it. So much can be done for your pet’s pain.  You want your pet to be happy and live long, right?  Then take care of your pet’s pain as soon as it occurs.  You need to know what type of pain it is, though, before you can treat it appropriately.

There are two types of pain in pets.  There is acute pain and chronic pain.  Each type has a different cause and each needs to be treated differently.  If you aren’t sure which type of pain your pet has then your veterinarian can help you.

When your pet is in acute pain then that means their pain came on suddenly from and injury or from surgery.  It could also be caused by an infection.  This pain makes your pet uncomfortable and they may not want to walk around.  The good part about your pet having this pain is that it is temporary.

If the veterinarian decides that your pet has chronic pain then that mean they will have pain that lasts for an extended period of time.  It usually comes on slowly and not as suddenly as with acute pain.  There are many causes of chronic pain.  Some of these causes are arthritis and cancer.  It can last for years.  It is very difficult to watch your pet go through this pain day after day.

Once the veterinarian has diagnosed your pet then the cause of the pain will be addressed.  Make sure that you keep notes on your pet’s behavior so you can share this with the vet.  They will probably take X-Rays, blood tests and tests.  This can help them determine the cause and also help the vet to come up with a plan for healing.

The treatment plan that your pet’s vet will come up with will include a plan for pain management.  This could include pills, liquid drugs or shots.  For example, if your pet has arthritis then they will be prescribed pet non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.  The plan could even include acupuncture and holistic medicines.  Mostly, a combination of these will be prescribed.

Analgesics, which are pain reducing drugs, are used a lot now to reduce stress in animals and help recovery after surgery.  They can help your pet cope easier with injury or infection.  These drugs include steroids, nonsteroidal anit-inflammatory drugs and narcotics.  These drugs can help with acute and chronic pain.  For help with acute pain, buffered aspirin is mostly used.

Work as a team with your pet’s veterinarian so that you can come up with some great solutions for your pet.  No one wants to see their pet in pain so make sure you get their pain diagnosed and taken care of.  You want your pet that is in pain to get help but also to have the least amount of side effects.  So talk to your pet’s veterinarian and come up with a pain management plan that works for your pet.

Are you struggling with failing health/ are you overweight or suffering from chronic fatigue. Is your health was steadily going down the drain. Unfortunately, instead of generating cure, the medications only temporarily suppress your symptoms but weakened my immune system, and in the long run make you even sicker. The combination of a bad diet (toxic foods) and the side effects of the drugs can affect your moods and even send you into depression.

Do you know that that the combination of an unhealthy diet and the huge number of allopathic medications can cause toxins to accumulate in your blood, lymph, and tissues, resulting in toxemia? These toxins can greatly contribute to your weak immune system, rendering you more susceptible to stress, fatigue, and chronic disease. You have to radically change your diet and lifestyle if there is any hope for improving your health.

The road to recovery

First of all, you will have to switch your diet from SAD (an acronym for ”Standard American Diet”) to a wholesome diet of fresh, organically grown fruits, vegetables, and nuts, mostly in their raw form. As far as possible, eliminate from your diet the starchy stuff like grains, rice, pasta, and breads as well as meat and dairy products.

The results of the diet change, believe it or not, will be dramatic. In a few weeks, you will start feeling better, you will notice yourself shelling pounds effortlessly (and never have to struggle again to keep my weight down). Besides, your energy level and stamina will improve dramatically. You will be able to function better overall, become calmer, centered and focused, and generally feel happier. Above all, your overall resistance to infections will become excellent. You will no longer have a cold, flu, ear, throat, sinus or breast infection or any other infections. You yourself will be amazed that even such things like debilitating back pains respond to simple treatments and change of diet. Over the years, your health and resistance to disease will continue to improve and in time you will also experience a complete recovery from my life long chronic problems such as eczema as well as from devastating side effects of the steroid’s immune suppressive effects.

Remember, if you overeat, or if you eat the wrong foods like starch, or cooked food, you will suffer the consequences fairly rapidly. This could be in the form of clogged sinuses, nasal discharges, poor sleep, nervousness, irritability, and low energy. That punishment is definitely not worth the brief moment of pleasure for the taste buds.

On the other hand, healthy oils such as flaxseed oil, olive oil, rapeseed oil, rice bran oil can help control your weight and greatly improve your health overall. There are, literally, hundreds of medical case histories with ”miraculous” recoveries or cures after patients switched from allopathic to holistic programs and from cooked food to raw food. You should also explore the fantastic healing power of therapeutic clays, fulvic minerals and shilajit, Transfer Factor, wheat grass juice, seaweed and algae extract, glyconutritionals/saccharides and the Himalayan Crystal salt, (common table salt is toxic).

Restrict intake of the following in your diet: margarine, sugar-free-products, aerated colas, sugar. Learn to care for yourself, your family and your pets with home and herbal remedies instead of rushing off for a consultation with an MD or a veterinarian for minor injuries or sickness. The MD or veterinarian will, in all probability, just push antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, or expensive medical tests. You will be surprised to see all your aches and pains and symptoms of disease vanish almost of their own accord.

Last, but not the least, remember there is no alternative to a healthy regimen of physical and mental exercise. You can take up aerobics, Yoga, Tai Chi, dance or whatever suits your predilection. But a healthy combination of exercise, meditation, good food, relaxation and taking a break from time to time, from your daily routine are mandatory to overall good health.

Alternative medicine is enjoying a boom as people start to take control of their own lives. As an alternative medical practitioner, a homeopath, I am very excited about this. When people take control of their own lives, there is no limit to what becomes possible. The limitations occur when you hand over that control to others. No one else but you, has your own best interests so much to heart.

Once you start taking control of your own life, you start to question what’s best for your family, including your pets.

You might now be asking yourself what could be the best alternative medicine for dogs.

There are many different alternative medicine modalities about and you need to do a bit of research to decide what is most appropriate. There’s homeopathy, reiki, naturopathy, Chinese medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic, flower essences, herbs, acupuncture or pressure, massage, Bowen therapy, to mention just a few. Many of these modalities will only be able to work in a limited way. For instance (and I’m no masseuse, so could be wrong), massage will probably only be good for strained muscles. And, although some can act on a deep level, they can be slow to show results, such as flower essences.

And alternative medicine for dogs, really starts with their diet. If you’re feeding your dog an unhealthy diet, it doesn’t really matter what modality of health care you use – it’s not going to bear fruit. “You are what you eat.”

Commercial dog food have few regulations and even fewer which are enforced. From the poor quality ‘meat’ by-products, to the nutritionless filler, to the dangerous preservatives, your dog is slowly being poisoned. Label claims of ‘preservative free’ or ‘natural’ are largely meaningless.

Once you start feeding your dog a wholesome and REALLY natural food, you will see huge improvements in health. Sometimes, that’s all you need.

But sometimes, you need to do more. Then you need to scour what’s available in  alternative medicine for dogs.

As a homeopath, you could say I’m biased (I agree!), but out of them all, the alternative medicine for dogs I consider has the greatest breadth and depth of real healing, is homeopathy.

Homeopathy has the potential to deal with ailments as diverse as ligament damage, to heart disease, from an embedded grass seed to depression. The only areas where I consider medical services are required is the setting of a broken bone and the stitching up of extensive wounds.

I don’t know of any other alternative medicine for dogs, where all this is possible.  And homeopathy addresses the cause, rather than the effect.

Lets look at that for a minute. Imagine a woman has just given birth, and has since developed haemorrhoids, or piles. Now there is a common homeopathic remedy for piles called Hamamelis. And this may well help. But it’s unlikely to cure. So you might have to keep taking it for a long time.

There’s another common homeopathic remedy called Pulsatilla. And this helps with many ailments that develop from childbirth, including piles. Taking Pulsatilla is more likely to cure them for good.

So if you can treat the cause, expect outstanding results. A permanent cure is the aim.

One of the things I love about treating animals is their desire to help in the choosing of the right remedy. Most dogs are pretty outgoing and will make it very clear when you’ve selected the right remedy – they’ll lick the bottle, their lips or your hand, they’ll sit expectantly and wag their tail, they’ll look interested and attentive.

If, on the other hand, you selected the wrong remedy, they’ll turn their head away, walk off, perhaps even snarl at you if you persist.

To me, their body language is very clear. You really don’t need to be an animal communicator.

Once you have gained a bit of an understanding of what’s available, choosing an holistic vet, for the more difficult ailments, who practices alternative medicine for dogs becomes easier, and you become involved with your dog’s treatment.

I am passionate about your right of freedom to choose. But to choose, you have to know something about the subjects you want to choose between. So you need to listen to both, or all, sides of every aspect of every junction in your life that offers you that choice. Alternative medicine for dogs gives you plenty of choice!

For many people their family pet is as important to them as any other member of their family. This is why it is important to locate a pet hospital that offers the highest quality medical and surgical care possible. There are pet hospitals with staff that actively attend continuing educational courses in order to stay on top o the latest advancements in the veterinary field.

When you are searching for a pet hospital make sure you find one that is an approved member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This title is only given to the hospitals that pass comprehensive inspections on their entire facilities, medical equipment, practice methods, and practice management. These facilities must also keep up on their strict AAHA standards in order to maintain the approved status.

Just as people need medical procedures, animals need them as well. It is just as important to find a qualified veterinarian as it is to find a doctor when something goes wrong. Pet hospitals provide services which include routine examinations, vaccinations, dentistry, indoor boarding, holistic medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, euthanasia, pet cremation, grooming, nutritional counseling, micro-chipping, radiology, ultrasound, twenty four hour emergency services, pharmacy and laboratory services, and geriatric medicine.

A common reason that people go to a pet hospital is to get their new puppies vaccinated. Protection from these common diseases depends on your pet’s immune system and it’s ability to respond to a vaccine. There are some puppies that can respond at an earlier age than others. It is important to start early with vaccinations and repeat them often to give your new pet as much protection as possible. Many vaccination programs start at six to eight weeks of age and require booster shots to be given every three to four weeks until the puppy is over the age of sixteen weeks.
